Background
The known universe is a chaotic sprawl of star systems. Space-faring feudal nobility and interstellar corporate conglomerates strive for domination amongst countless political alliances and alien races.
The planet Araxes has a hostile, desert environment where water is almost as precious as the planet's most sought after commodity: "Spice". Used as a flavouring and health supplement throughout the universe, when it is purified spice can prolonging human life and enhance psionic potential. Many aspects of pure spice remain unknown and are areas of active research.
Splintered Rock is a spice mining outpost where independent prospectors from a dozen different worlds bring spice to be refined. Starships from a dozen different worlds sit majestically on the landing pad as their holds are loaded with refined spice. Meanwhile, the natives of Araxes watch the efforts of the offworlders to try and tame an untamable world and bide their time....

Splintered Rock is developed in the online virtual world Second Life® To enter the world all you need to do is download the FREE viewer program which runs on Windows, Linux and Macs. Click on the Second Life icon (left) which will take you to the Second Life page where you can create an account and download the viewer.
We have developed our own 'Head-up-display' (HUD) system which integrates into the Second Life display. It is provided free at the Splintered Rock location and allows players to gather spice and acquire valuable skills in the game. Click the 'Visit in Second Life' button to pick up your HUD and start playing!
